10 Holiday Presents That Don’t Suck For Photographers

If you know a photographer, chances are they’ve received one or more Camera Lens Coffee Mugs. And while you might find that cute, most of us cringe as we accept it — just being real — WE APPRECIATE YOU THOUGH, WE PROMISE!

This is why I’ve compiled a list of items that would be great for the photographer in your life and would be something they will ACTUALLY use.

SD CARDS

You may want to put out a feeler to your friend to make sure that they use this specific type of card, but I know my go-to is the SanDisk Extreme Pro in the 256 GB. This is a pretty fast card for the most part, but if your friend does VIDEO, they definitely may want something a little extra.

HOTSHOE MOUNTS

These are perfect for photographers who want to attach a phone mount, video light, or any additional things to the hotshoe of their camera (where the flash goes). This set from Fotasy on Amazon costs only $7.

LENS CLEANING KIT

Every photographer always needs lens cleaning gear. Especially being on the go, having multiple will create convenience for the photographer in your life. Check out this 4-item kit with two microfiber cleaning cloths, a lens cleaning pen, and an air blower to cover all the corners.

MEMORY CARD HOLDER

We constantly have tons of cards, and we need to protect them! That’s why we need this water-resistant, shockproof memory card holder with a carabiner. It can be the perfect purchase, especially under $10, because it can be hooked to the inside of our bags for safekeeping.

PASSPORT HOLDER FOR CREDENTIALS

Is your photographer a member of the press? If so, a credential holder might be super helpful! As someone who does concert photography, I highly recommend getting a passport holder. They’re the perfect size for most of our credentials, and this particular set is a 2-pack of thick and clear sleeves so you can also stuff your ticket for the show inside.

EARPLUGS

Earplugs are great for your entertainment-based photographers. We’re constantly near speakers and loud music, and protecting our hearing is of upmost importance. There are great brands out there that you can snag fancier pairs from, or you can go with the “buy in bulk” mode and get your pal multiple plugs in case they tend to lose them. Our suggestions?

  1. Loop Earplugs // They’ve got different versions of quiet, we recommend the Experience 2 if your person is constantly attending shows up close. You can shop with us by clicking here.
  2. Eargasm Earplugs // If you have a photographer friend who is at a lot of events but still needs to hear what’s going on around them, we recommend any of Eargasm’s offerings. The Earlights are also great for any photo friends that are into the EDM scene, as they light up. Snag 10% off by using code “ACRONYMIS10” at checkout on Eargasm.com.
  3. If your pal constantly loses earplugs, here’s the best-case scenario: Stock them up with many options! This pack on Amazon comes with individual cases, 16 pairs, and they come with a tether so your friend won’t lose these (at least for the night).

MINI CLAMP TRIPOD

Social Media has caused your photographer friends to also be content creators, and so this SMALLRIG Clamp and Mount that your friend can attach their phone mount to in order to capture behind the scenes is PERFECT for them. Plus, you don’t have to worry about getting them the right size of anything with this bad boy.

MEMORY CARD READER

We can never have too many memory card readers; with such excessive use, we sometimes need to replace them. This Anker one is from a great brand and covers both SD and MicroSD cards for importing.

POWER BANK

We’re constantly on the move as photographers, and one of the things we utilize more than our cameras is our phones. Here’s a power bank that is strong enough to power phone, a MacBook if needed, and covers a ton of other devices. Please note that this power bank has its own cord attached and it is USB-C, so you might need an adapter if your friend is still rocking a lightning port for an iPhone.

GIFT CARDS

Because many photography items tend to hinge on the make and model of the camera and/or lens, sometimes your safest bet is to go the route of a gift card. We suggest spots like B&H Photo, Adorama, or Amazon. I can speak for pretty much every photographer I know: We won’t be insulted receiving gift cards for presents.
